Letter to Governor
Washington for Peace and Justice calls on our coalition partners and individuals to join us in demanding action from Governor Bob Ferguson. Read the letter and sign below.

Dear Governor Ferguson,
Congratulations on your election as the new governor of Washington State. We are writing to you as a broad coalition of Washington State multifaith, community, and human rights organizations to express our urgent concerns regarding the genocide in Gaza and the horrific humanitarian crisis perpetrated by the State of Israel, and funded by our tax dollars. We emphasize the critical importance of your moral leadership in addressing this heartbreaking and dark experience in our shared history. With President Trump returning to the White House, it is more clear than ever that we will need to take a strong, ethical stance for human and civil rights for our people in Washington and beyond.
On September 6th of last year, we bore witness to the killing of Aysenur Eygi, a lifelong Washingtonian; she was shot in the head by Israeli Forces in the West Bank with no accountability from her killers. We appreciate your leadership in signing the letter calling for an independent investigation, justice and accountability in Aysenur’s killing. Unfortunately, Aysenur's death is not unique: more than 20 years ago, Rachel Corrie, another Washingtonian from Olympia was brutally and fatally bulldozed by an Israeli soldier, again, with no accountability from her killers. The Israeli Forces are killing Americans with impunity, including American journalist Shireen Abu-Akleh, American aid worker Jacob Flickinger, and a long list of others. This issue has deeply and directly affected us in Washington for decades.
The Israeli government has been conducting war crimes in blatant violation of both U.S. and international laws, and it is imperative that we, as a state, take a clear and principled stance against these atrocities. Many members of our communities have faced censure and violations of their First Amendment rights simply for opposing this violence, which only adds to the urgency of the matter. We have a robust community of Palestinian-Americans living in Washington State that have been directly impacted by this horrific genocide, many losing multiple family members and friends in the most horrific killings at the hands of Israel. At the same time, so many of us, including Arab-Americans, and Muslim-Americans, are horrified each day by the mounting atrocities committed by Israel and the majority of Washingtonians are in strong favor of a ceasefire and an arms embargo on the State of Israel.
While it may seem like a distant international issue, the impacts are felt deeply within Washington. As our next governor, we hope that you will rise to the occasion and demonstrate your commitment to our civil rights within Washington as well as our role in upholding human rights and international law globally - particularly when our tax dollars are being used to fund genocide. We invite you to meet with our coalition leaders to discuss how we can work together to protect the rights and dignity of those impacted by this crisis. Your action on this is a moral imperative that will set the tone for your administration and reaffirm Washington’s commitment to justice and compassion.
We remain hopeful that you will be the leader who does the right thing by fostering dialogue and collaboration on these pressing issues. The expectations moving forward are strong, and we believe that your engagement will help bridge the divide that currently exists within our local communities.
We have high hopes that you will stand up for what is right, and actively work to keep all, especially Middle Eastern & Muslim communities, in Washington safe.
Our coalition leaders request a meeting with you to discuss how we can proceed as partners in community safety and fostering an equitable Washington for all. We look forward to the opportunity to work together to advocate for peace and justice for all Washingtonians.
